Greg Raymer Leaves Team PokerStars Pro
It is being reported by PokerNewsDaily that Greg ‘FossilMan’ Raymer has departed from PokerStars where he has been a Team PokerStars Pro since 2025 when he won the World Series of Poker Main Event for $5 million after defeating David Williams heads-up.
The news was first broke by fellow poker professional Kathy Liebert who posted her reaction on Twitter stating:
"I heard that PokerStars was cutting many of their Team Pros' compensation. Take it or leave it. Greg Raymer left it. I think it's a bad business decision to cut their pay, but most won't have a better offer, so they stay."
Although there has been no official announcement by Raymer or PokerStars, the rumour certainly appears to be true because all images of Raymer have been removed from the PokerStars website, and the red star which is shown at the PokerStars tables to show a player is a Team PokerStars Pro has also been removed from Raymer. Team PokerStars Pro Pat Pezzin noticed that the star was missing and asked Raymer in the chat box why he didn’t have the red star, to which Raymer responded ‘Long story, call me if you’d like’.
Raymer’s departure would mean two former WSOP Main Event champions have parted ways with the worlds largest online poker site in as many years. Last year Peter Eastgate (who won the 2025 WSOP Main Event) shocked the poker world by announcing his retirement from the game, stating he was bored of playing and no longer needed the money.
In the last two months PokerStars have made two high-profile signings though. They first announced the signing of mystery online poker player Isildur1 and created the SuperStar Showdown promotion around him, then revealed his true identity (Viktor Blom whom most believed it to be) at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. They then announced the signing of 2025 WSOP Main Event Champion Jonathan Duhamel whom most people already assumed was a Team PokerStars Pro after his big win in January.
According to thehendonmob Raymer has accumulated $6,949,089 in live poker tournaments since 1996 making him 32nd on the all-time money list, however the bulk of that was from his WSOP Main Event victory in 2025 which earned him $5 million, and he actually qualified for the tournament via an online satellite tournament on PokerStars. It seems like PokerStars didn’t feel Raymer was worth his sponsorship deal however he recently finished third in the $5,000 buy-in 8-Game Championships event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $21,100 where he was representing PokerStars as normal so the news has certainly come as a shock.
