THEDECANO wins UBOC 6 Championship
January saw the sixth much anticipated UB Online Championship (UBOC) take place and it was a huge success yet again. The series culminated in Sunday’s Championship Monster Stack No Limit Hold'em which had a buy-in of $1,050 with a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million (which ended up being $1,036,000 after 1,036 players entered the tournament).
The tournament was hosted by new Team UB professional Prahlad Friedman, however he couldn’t manage to make an impact in the event and it was Brandon Cantu who finished best of the Team UB players, narrowly missing out on the final table as he finished in 12th-place after he ran his A-5 into pocket Kings and found no help on the board.
When play got down to three-handed it was THEDECANO, IBIZADREAMS and ARGENTINABOY who were left to battle it out for victory. It was Alex ‘ARGENTINABOY’ Queen who found himself eliminated in third-place for $93,000 however after he found himself all-in preflop. ARGENTINABOY held pocket nines and he was up against THEDECANO who held A-K, and the board came 2-A-10-4-8 (all diamonds but neither player held one), to seal ARGENTINABOY’s fate and set up heads-up play.
It was now a battle between THEDECANO and IBIZADREAMS for title of UBOC 6 Champion and first-place prize money of $231,338. THEDECANO entered as a heavy favourite however, holding a 9:1 chip advantage and it took only ten hands of heads-up play for him to seal the victory. IBIZADREAMS was all-in preflop holding K-8 up against THEDECANO’s A-2. It was looking like a double-up was on the cards for IBIZADREAMS as the flop came K-J-3 however an Ace on the turn put THEDECANO back in front and with no help on the river the tournament was over with THEDECANO being crowned UBOC 6 Main Event Champion.
THEDECANO is a Brazilian player whose real name is Thiago Nishijima. This was his second final table of UBOC 6 as he also final tabled Event #6 which was a $215 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament. Despite such a large win of $231,338 it is not his largest online poker victory. In January 2025 he won a $1,050 buy-in No-Limit Texas Hold’em event during the PokerStars WCOOP (World Championship of Online Poker) series, after overcoming a field of 1,557 other players to win $249,000.
