Eugene KatchalovThe next contestant for the exciting PokerStars SuperStar Showdown has been announced and it will be Eugene Katchalov who will pit his wits against Swedish poker pro Viktor Blom in this challenge. This contest is scheduled to take place at PokerStars on February 13th, at 3pm ET.

The Superstar Showdown, hosted by PokerStars, is a high stakes challenge introduced by Team PokerStars pro, Viktor Blom, known as Isildur1. The contest itself is a head-up match that involves 2,500 hands in one gaming session. The action concerns No Limit Hold’Em and Pot Limit Omaha and is played over four tables at the same time with minimum stakes of $50 / $100.

Viktor Blom’s forthcoming opponent in the next showdown will be Eugene Katchalov, a poker player born in the Ukraine, who has cashed in from both live poker events and online tournaments.  Katchalov earned his first cash in 2004, where he participated in a preliminary event at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic.   Following this, Katchalov has managed to cash in on 18 occasions at World Series of Poker (WSOP) events.  With a bracelet still eluding him, he has reached the 6th position in the $10,000 hi/lo event in 2008 and finished in third position in 2010 at the $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. event. It is reported that his total earning from live tournaments exceeds $6 million.

As far as online poker gaming is concerned, Katchalov has earned an approximate $825,000 from over 200 various events.  The highlight of his online tournament history is probably when he won the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker, or WCOOP, in 2009 and earned the impressive amount of $170,000.

Viktor Blom, the initiator of this PokerStars challenge is a young poker pro that has made a big splash in the online poker world of high stakes. The SuperStar Showdown became known in online poker circles as a challenge against a player by the name of Isildur1 and it is only recently that Viktor Blom has been identified as Isildur1. He has not yet made an impact at live poker tournaments however, he will be hoping to make a mark there too in the near future, also at high stake games.
